StarWave Service

DayStar's StarWave service is available for business and government users in select areas of Port Charlotte, Cape Haze, Venice, and Punta Gorda, and will soon be available in North Port.

Although the service is called wireless, it doesn't use the same technology that carries cellular telephone calls. StarWave operates in the 5-gigahertz microwave band of the public radio spectrum. The service uses a wireless communications link from a centrally-located DayStar antenna to a small receiver/antenna located at a customer's site. This service is line-of-sight and is not affected by adverse weather conditions such as rain or fog.

The receiver/antenna at the customer's site is usually smaller than the dish mounted on homes for satellite TV reception. If you are located within 2 miles of our tower, the dish is usually not required. Wireless communications will play a major role in the future of communications. It's the next wave in broadband, high speed technology. Even though we are communicating data initially, the future for wireless includes voice over IP (VoIP), video and graphics.

StarWave is available in speeds up to 6 Mbps download (10 Mbps aggregate bandwidth). E-mail service is included with each offer as well as a static IP address. Existing StarWave customers are hospitals, law enforcement agencies, municipal and county governments, as well as many commercial locations.

Besides reaching customers outside of the normal broadband DSL service area, this service can also provide data redundancy for your business. That is, StarWave is often used as back-up service to operate in case the land-line-based Internet service is interrupted by a weather emergency or a cable cut.

Contact us if your telephone company cannot serve you via DSL or if you want wireless Internet access or Internet access redundancy for your business.
